No-exam life insurance

Eligibility for accelerated underwriting, how the process works, and what is different without it.

Today most insurers provide accelerated underwriting: for applicants in specified age bands and coverage limits, they render a choice based on the application, prescription data, driving history, and other records rather than a medical visit. Approval can occur within hours. Each quote states whether an exam is needed, possibly needed, or not needed for that policy.

What it changes

Accelerated paths skip the exam, but not the full review. Your statements are confirmed, and any policy given based on false statements is voidable within two years. When the carrier has doubts from their research, they can still ask for tests; you can then decide to proceed or not.

Who tends to qualify

Candidates are usually under 60, seeking amounts within the carrier's fast-track threshold, with no serious past health issues and no tobacco history in twelve months or more. Some firms will take recent medical tests from your doctor instead of a fresh exam.

When an exam is needed, expect a 20- to 30-minute session conducted by a paramedical specialist at your place in the Galt region, at no charge. For many healthy people, exam findings actually raise their rating, making it not such a bad thing.
